An eddy current dynamometer is a non-contact load device that generates braking torque through electromagnetic induction. As the conductive rotor spins inside a magnetic field, opposing eddy currents create a precise, controllable braking force. Load is adjusted by changing the excitation current through external coils. No mechanical contact means minimal wear and highly repeatable measurements.
EconoTest ECW series eddy current dynamometers cover speeds up to 50,000 U/min. The ECW05KB model (0.5 Nm) reaches 50,000 RPM for high-speed micro-motor testing; the ECW300KB model (300 Nm) handles speeds up to 7,000 RPM for large industrial motors. All models are water-cooled.
NEIN. Eddy current dynamometers cannot generate braking torque at zero RPM because the braking force depends entirely on rotor motion through the magnetic field. For zero-speed torque testing, starting torque measurement, or servo motor evaluation, a hysteresis or magnetic powder dynamometer is required.
All ECW series eddy current dynamometers are water-cooled. Short-term power ratings range from 200 W (ECW05KB) Zu 25,000 W (ECW300KB); continuous ratings from 120 Darin 15,000 W. Water supply flow and pressure requirements are specified per model. The water circuit must be kept clean to maintain heat exchange efficiency.
ECW series eddy current dynamometers achieve torque accuracy of ±0.2% to ±0.5% full scale. The exact accuracy depends on the model and measurement range selected. Load cell-based torque measurement with non-contact speed pickup ensures consistent repeatability across test sessions.
